Black-chinned Hummingbird

 

Habitat: Semi arid country, river groves and suburbs.

 

Food:  Mostly nectar and insects however also feeds from sugar mixtures in hummingbird feeders.

 

Migratory Path: Spend winter in Mexico and stray east in the fall, sometimes winter in Gulf Coast

 

Behavior: Hovers over flowers and extends tongue deep into the flower. Catches insects flying in mid air. Catch spiders from their spiderwebs.

 

Conservation Status: Widespread and common with stable numbers.
