Broad-tailed Hummingbird

 

Habitat: Mountain meadows and forests, mostly open forests with streams

 

Food: Mostly nectar and insects, also feeds of sugar water in hummingbird feeders.

 

Migratory Path: Usually during Spring and Fall tends to move from the Lowlands to the South through the mountains

 

Behavior:  Hovers over flowers and extends tongue deep into the flower. Catches insects flying in mid air. Also takes spiders from webs.

 

Conservation Status: Still common and widespread with declining numbers.
