Calliope Hummingbird

 

Habitat: Forest glades, canyons and open mountains.

 

Food: Mostly nectar and insects however also feeds from sugar mixtures in hummingbird feeders.

 

Migratory Path: Relatively common, no effects to habitat loss.

 

Behavior: Often visits flowers growing inches from the ground. Hovers over flowers and extends tongue deep into the flower. Catches insects flying in mid air.

 

Conservation Status: Fairly common.
