Rufous Hummingbird
Jasper is transformed into our main character
Habitat: Forests, streamsides and meadows.
Food: Mostly nectar and insects but will also feed on sugar water from hummingbird feeders.
Migratory: Moves northwest in the spring through the Pacific Lowlands and southeast in late June towards the Rocky Mountains. However path stretches from Alaska to the Panama Canal, one of the longest migrations by size by any animal!
Behavior: Hovers over flowers and extends tongue deep into the flower. Catches insects flying in mid air.
Conservation Status: Still widespread and very common however there is a gradual decline.
